S&S Industries is the world's leading manufacturer of brassiere underwire with manufacturing plants in the United States and France. At the time of purchase, it suffered from absentee ownership, erratic earnings and antiquated manufacturing equipment. Mr. Klein recruited several key managers, led the redesign and automation of the manufacturing process, and developed international and product line expansion plans. In 1998, when the company was sold, revenues had expanded by approximately 40% and EBITDA had grown by 250%.
